Every one of us pet parents love our pet. At times most of us worry about their safety, their wellbeing and happiness, and their health. Making your own dog food can alleviate many health concerns. If they are eating good food, using homemade dog food recipes they will be healthier and happier. Just like their human moms and dads.

Recalls are now a part of life, and that includes your pet’s food. Even higher priced, supposedly better foods have been tagged as sub-standard. Cheap foods can have any number of ingredients that are not natural to your dog’ diet, some may even be harmful.

The food your pet eats can help a great deal with any number of ailments. You can control what goes into your homemade dog food, and what doesn’t, i.e. salt, preservatives and fillers.

There are many benefits to homemade dog food, not the least of which is peace of mind. You know exactly what your dog is getting so you also know you have done your best for your pet.

Here is an excellent recipe for homemade dog food.

Ingredients

 

  • 1 ½ cups brown rice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 pounds ground turkey
  • 3 cups baby spinach, chopped
  • 2 carrots, shredded
  • ½ cup peas, canned or frozen

 

Homemade Dog Food Recipe Directions

In a large saucepan of 3 cups water, cook rice according to package instructions; set aside.

Heat olive oil in a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium heat.

Add ground turkey and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the turkey as it cooks.

Stir in spinach, carrots, zucchini, peas and brown rice until the spinach has wilted and the mixture is heated through, about 3-5 minutes.

Let cool completely.
